DK 2.0 has taken the IPL by storm with his whirlwind knocks down the order. Dinesh Karthik has successfully reinvented himself into a finisher for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing season. Many cricket fans and cricket pundits are already asking the selectors to bring the veteran back to the Indian team. Meanwhile, the legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar is the latest person to urge the selectors to pick Dinesh Karthik in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The Tamil Nadu-batter is enjoying a great season with the bat for Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. The wicketkeeper has the highest strike rate in the tournament and has amassed a total of 274 runs in 12 matches while batting at the death.

Sunil Gavaskar supports the inclusion of Dinesh Karthik in the Indian team

The former opener Sunny G has whole-heartedly supported Karthik’s comeback to the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup. He was in a conversation with Sports Tak when he opened up on the same.

“We did commentary together during the World Test Championship final in England last year and before that we spent a lot of time together when we were in quarantine. I know from then how determined he has been about playing in the T20 World Cups of 2021 and 2022. He wasn’t selected for last year’s World Cup but the way he has performed in IPL 2022, if I were a selector then I would definitely pick him for the upcoming T20 World Cup,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.

The living legend also added that Dinesh Karthik, who is 36 years old, should be selected on his current form with the bat instead of his age.

“Form is important. They say form is temporary and class is permanent and if a classy player is in form, then you must pick him. The way he is batting currently he should be considered and included as a pure batter and wicket-keeping should be an added option,” further added Sunil Gavaskar.

“Don’t think about his age. He keeps for 20 overs and then bats and that too in hot conditions. He should be considered based on his form. The other two keeping options are KL Rahul, who is in great form, and Rishabh Pant, whose form is a bit up and down but there are no questions about his selection because he is a certainty,” Sunil Gavaskar concluded his opinion on Dinesh Karthik.
