“He’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon” – Rohit Sharma makes a huge claim about Tilak Verma
Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma was in awe of the youngster Tilak Verma after the game against CSK as the left-handed batter played another sensible knock to take his side home.
On Thursday night, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians wrote another chapter in the glittering history between the two sides. The Yellow Army was blown away by the Mumbai Indians’ pacers after Rohit Sharma invited them to bat first after winning the toss.
Despite MS Dhoni’s lone hand, CSK were bundled out for just 97 runs in 16 overs. Defending the total, Chennai Super Kings’ pacers tried to make a game of it by removing Mumbai Indians’ top order early.
However, young Tilak Verma had different ideas in his mind. The left-handed batter bailed Mumbai Indians out of trouble by holding one end. Verma remained unbeaten till the end to see his team get over the line successfully. His knock of 34 runs off 32 deliveries was pivotal in providing Mumbai Indians with much-needed stability in the middle without suffering jitters in the chase.
Rohit Sharma heaps praise on Tilak Verma
The 19-year old lad is playing his first-ever season in the IPL but he has emerged as the most-reliable batter for the five-time champions. The experts are already impressed by the quality of the youngster and they are predicting a big future for him.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also shares similar views on Tilak Verma as he praised the youngster for his batting in the post-match conversation.
“He (Tilak) has been brilliant, playing for the first year, having such a calm head is never easy. I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique and temperament. A lot of things are looking bright for him. And there’s hunger as well,” said Rohit after the game.
For the unversed, Tilak Verma has been Mumbai Indians‘ shining light in an otherwise dull campaign. The teenager has amassed 368 runs in 12 IPL matches this season at an average of over 40.
