India pace bowler Deepak Chahar has dropped a massive update about his potential return from the injury layoff. His absence was felt badly in the CSK’s camp during the recently concluded Indian Premier League as the four-time champions finished 2nd-last in the points table. The swing bowler was signed by the Yellow Army for INR 14 crore in the mega-auctions. However, Chahar missed the whole IPL season due to an injury.

Now, with the T20 World Cup 2022 fast approaching, Deepak Chahar has come up with good news for the Indian cricket fans. As per the latest update, the right-arm pacer is expected to recover completely within the next four to five weeks.

The 29-year-old had sustained an injury during the West Indies series earlier this year. However, while he was recovering at the NCA, he sustained a back injury that ruled him out of the game for an extended period. Chahar is currently going through his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru alongside T Natarajan and Washington Sundar.

“My recovery is going pretty well’ – Deepak Chahar

As per a report in PTI, the swing-bowler is looking in a good shape during the training sessions. Moreover, the bowler has also admitted to bowling four-five overs at a time without any discomfort.

“I am bowling four to five overs at one go as per my rehab programme right now. My recovery is going pretty well and I think it will take another four to five weeks for me to get match fit,” Deepak Chahar was quoted by the PTI report.

He also confirmed that he won’t be fully fit for the England T20Is scheduled to be played in July and will require to test his fitness by playing the club games first.

“It’s a step-by-step process as far as recovery is concerned. I don’t think I will be fit for England T20s. Once I am match fit, I will need to play some club-level games to check my fitness,” added Chahar.

Meanwhile, the CSK pacer is optimistic to get back into the scheme of things for the West Indies tour, where Team India is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is from the 22nd of July to the 7th of August.

“I can’t say that but I will definitely try and get fit by then. Let’s see,” Deepak Chahar concluded.
