Former India coach Ravi Shastri has criticized the Indian opener and LSG’s skipper, KL Rahul, for his slow batting approach in the Eliminator against RCB. The stylish opener from Karnataka scored 79 runs off 58 deliveries but failed to take his team over the line.

While he managed to take his shot up his strike rate during the fag end of the innings, his slow approach during the middle-overs came back to haunt his team. The KLassy batter had a decent start in the powerplay with 26 runs off 17 deliveries but he could hit only a single boundary in the next seven overs.

His approach left the fans and many cricket experts baffled. Now, the former India coach has questioned his approach in the Eliminator.

“KL Rahul could have taken a little more chances” – Ravi Shastri

“They should have gone a little earlier. Sometimes, you wait too long but here, between the 9th and the 14th over, they should have been someone who should have been targeted, especially in that partnership,” Ravi Shastri said in the post-game show for Star Sports.

“When Hooda and Rahul were going, I think even though he did as well as he did, KL could have taken a little more chances because Hooda was going. Take a little more chances and he could have targeted someone between the 9th and the 13th over because Harshal was going to come back in the end. If they had got the required rate down at the stage, that would have made RCB a little nervous,” Ravi Shastri added.

For the unversed, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator on Wednesday night. Riding on Rajat Patidar’s whirlwind century, RCB posted a 200 plus total for the opposition. Meanwhile, KL Rahul alongside Deepak Hooda tried his best to overhaul the target but fell short in the end.
