All you need to know about BCCI’s criteria for selecting Team India’s next head coach
Rahul Dravid has been the head coach of Team India since 2021.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently invited applications for the post of head coach of the Indian men’s team. Rahul Dravid has been serving as the head coach of Team India since 2021. His tenure comes to an end post the T20 World Cup 2024 tourney.
As things stand, BCCI is on the hunt for a new coach who can steer the team in the right direction. The BCCI secretary also made it clear that Rahul Dravid can still re-apply for the position after his contract expires.
Under Rahul Dravid’s guidance, Team India are yet to win an ICC title. However, they have a great chance to end the ICC title drought by winning the upcoming marquee event in the USA and the West Indies (June 1 to 29). The BCCI has set a deadline for applying for the post and the candidates shall apply on or before May 27.

Minimum criteria to become the head coach of Team India
1. BCCI is looking for a coach who can serve Team India for a period of three and a half years (July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027).
2. The candidate should have played at least 30 Tests or 50 ODIs for the national team. For the record, India will play ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC ODI World Cup 2027. As a result, the BCCI is on the hunt for a coach who understands the nuances of the ODI format.
3. The candidate must be below 60 years of age. He is/were a head coach of a full member Test playing nation for at least two years.
4. The candidate will have to acquire a BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent.
5. The candidate was a head coach of an Associate member, IPL franchise or Equivalent International League/ First Class Teams/ National A teams for at least three years.
