England international Jason Roy has opted out of the upcoming season of the IPL citing personal reasons. He registered himself at the auction for a base price of Rs 2 crore. Gujarat Titans secured the services of Roy for his base price.

Jason Roy made up his mind to take an indefinite break from the sport. The England opener also mentioned that playing the game during coronavirus pandemic enforced bio-bubbles took an immense toll on him over the last 3 years.

The right-handed batsman also added that it is with a heavy heart he decided to opt-out of this year’s tournament. He also went on to thank the Gujarat Titans team management and skipper Hardik Pandya for picking him at the auction.

Given that everything has been going on in the world over the last three years, it took a toll on him. This is the reason why he decided to pull out of the IPL. He also added that he wants to spend some quality time with the family.

With Jason Roy ruled out of the IPL, we will take a glimpse at the five players who can replace him in Gujarat Titans for the upcoming season of the lucrative Indian Premier League.

The veteran cricketer registered his name at the IPL 2022 auction for his base price of Rs 75 lakh. Signing him for his base price would have been an absolute steal for any franchise. Unfortunately, Guptill failed to attract any bidder at the auction. Guptill is also the second-leading run-scorer in Twenty20 Internationals.

He aggregated 3299 runs for New Zealand in the shortest format. The 35-year-old cricketer has scored 2 centuries and 20 fifties to his name in T20Is at a sensational strike rate of 136.7. The experienced campaigner can be the first choice to fill Jason Roy’s place as an opener at Gujarat Titans.
