5 players Royal Challengers Bangalore can release ahead of IPL 2023

RCB finished in fourth position in IPL 2022.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are tagged as the perennial underachievers in the Indian Premier League courtesy of their failure to win the coveted IPL trophy yet. The Bangalore-based franchise has reached the final three times but failed to get their hands on the championship every single time.

Season after season, RCB assemble a star-studded squad but somehow they always fall short. In IPL 2022, they appointed Faf du Plessis as the new skipper and the team also managed to reach the playoffs. However, the Royal Challengers from Bangalore once again fell short after losing the 2nd Qualifier.

There were some visible gaps in their squad last season and the team management would like to get rid of those ahead of the new season. The first step towards that will be releasing Deadwood from the franchise to make space for the new signings. Hence, in this post, we will take a look at the 5 players Royal Challengers Bangalore can release ahead of IPL 2023.

To bolster their pace attacking stocks, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Aussie pacer Jason Behrendorff. The franchise shelled out INR 75 lakh to sign the left-arm pacer.

However, Josh Hazlewood was RCB’s main pacer and another left-arm pacer, David Willey, was preferred over Jason Behrendorff in the playing XI as the latter could not get even a single game during IPL 2022.

Behrendorff wasn’t in the best of form last year and Royal Challengers Bangalore are likely to release him ahead of next season. The franchise will look to bring in a more reliable backup for Hazlewood in IPL 2023.
