In the Caribbean Premier League 2021, Dominic Drakes had a stellar season for St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The left-arm pacer picked up 16 wickets in 11 matches and also made a few handy contributions with the bat lower down the order. Gujarat Titans signed Drakes as a backup option and shelled out INR 1.1 crore to secure his services.
However, the Titans were loaded with pace bowling options, including Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, and Alzarri Joseph. Hence, Dominic Drakes failed to break into the playing XI and was reduced to a squad player for the whole season.
With the new season approaching, Drakes is unlikely to find a place in the Titans’ playing XI this season as well and hence, the franchise might opt to release him ahead of IPL 2023 to sign a proper all-rounder.
