5 players Chennai Super Kings can release ahead of IPL 2023

CSK will look a pick a fresh pool of players at IPL 2023 auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are undoubtedly the most consistent team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The Yellow Army, led by MS Dhoni, is also the 2nd-most successful franchise in the cash-rich league with four title triumphs. However, they had a disappointing campaign last season after failing to qualify for the playoffs.

In fact, Chennai Super Kings finished 2nd last in the points table with only four wins and ten losses after fourteen league matches. Most of their players could not perform as per their respective reputations. Meanwhile, their campaign was also marred by injuries to multiple players. Furthermore, reports of rifts within the camp didn’t help their cause either.

Chennai Super Kings will be keen to leave last season behind them. They will look to rebuild their side and fill the gaps in the auctions ahead of the upcoming season. With the deadline for release of players approaching, CSK will be releasing a few players who do not fit into their system anymore. Hence, in this post, we will take a look at the 5 players Chennai Super Kings can release ahead of IPL 2023.

For the last couple of years, Tushar Deshpande has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. The right-handed pacer has accounted for 29 wickets in 27 List-A matches and 57 wickets in 23 First-Class matches. Tushar Deshpande had a strong Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign for Mumbai in 2022 where he picked up 8 wickets in 4 matches.

The Chennai-based franchise picked the 27-year-old as the backup pacer in the Indian squad at a base price of INR 20 lakh. CSK were dealt with a body blow as their premier pacer Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the tournament with an injury. In his absence, Tushar Deshpande was roped into playing XI for a couple of games but he failed to impress with the ball.

In the two matches, Deshpande picked up only one wicket in seven overs while giving away 63 runs at an economy rate of 7. With Mukesh Choudhary impressing with the ball last season, the Yellow Army might opt to release Tushar Deshpande ahead of the auction for IPL 2023.
