5 Indian cricketers who may retire from Tests soon

Cementing a spot in the Indian Test team for an extended period of time is no easy feat. It is no secret that there has been a fierce competition for decades, owing to a constant influx of talented prospects waiting in the wings to announce their arrival.

The cricket fraternity has witnessed seasoned cricketers struggling to hold on to their spots owing to their age and form. With budding talents constantly emerging and putting up strong displays, the experienced players might as well nearing the end of their Test careers.

While some have given the team some unforgettable moments, the time may soon come for them to step aside and make way for the next generation of stars to lead the charge. Let’s take a look at the five players who might call it quits from the longest format soon.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane was once a mainstay of Team India’s middle order. However, there has been a noticeable decline in his performances over the past few years as he went through ups and downs. The 36-year-old struggled to maintain consistency, which dampened his position in the team.

His last Test appearance came against the West Indies in 2023 and was overlooked by the selectors since then. The highlight of Rahane’s career was when he guided India to a Test series win over Australia in foreign soil. However, his batting performance has been short of an effect. With younger players stepping up, the possibility of the Mumbai-born calling time on his Test career seems more likely.
