5 backup spin options for India ahead of T20 World Cup 2021

2. Axar Patel

Axar Patel

Axar Patel shot to prominence when he broke Ajanta Mendis’ record to take most wickets in the debut series in Test cricket. The left-arm spinner weaved the magic at the right place and at the right time to outsmart the English batsmen in India.

Besides his bowling, he is also a handy batsman where he filled the shoes of Ravindra Jadeja in the Test series. Since he proved that he is worth the weight in gold, he will most probably be picked in the T20I squad this time around for the marquee event.

The 27-year-old has ample experience playing the shortest format of the game. Having played as many as 97 games in IPL, he has taken 80 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7.3. Axar took 9 wickets for India in 12 games at an economy of 6.88.
