WATCH: Shardul Thakur bowls a peach of a delivery to dismiss Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler failed to capitalize on his start.

Team India’s fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been a revelation ever since stepping into Test cricket. The 29-year-old used all his guile and weapons to take four wickets in the opening Test match against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

He picked up two wickets in the first innings and after which, he took two wickets in the second innings. Shardul did make his presence count on the pitch by taking the prized wicket of Joe Root. England’s Test skipper was batting so well in the first innings as he scored a valiant half-century.

When his teammates failed to rise to the occasion, Root took the responsibility on himself and scored a pivotal 64 (14 fours) before eventually falling prey to Shardul Thakur’s bowling. Root was trapped for a leg before wicket off Shardul’s peach of a delivery.

After getting rid of the captain, he also went on to dismiss Ollie Robinson in the same over itself. Shardul did complete justice to selection when he took two more wickets in the second innings. He got rid of Daniel Lawrence and Jos Buttler in the 65th and 71st over respectively.

Shardul Thakur bowls a gem of a delivery to dismiss Jos Buttler

England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler didn’t bring the best out of him in the first innings. He got out for a duck off Jasprit Bumrah‘s bowling. However, he looked in good touch in the second innings. He even struck three boundaries to demoralize India’s bowling attack.

Nonetheless, his innings was put to an end by Shardul Thakur. Buttler made a shocking misjudgement when he decided to leave the delivery in the first place. Thakur bowled an in-ducker as he pitched the ball just outside off. While Buttler decided to leave the ball, his judgement came back to haunt him.

The ball that pitched outside off kept coming back into Buttler. The batsman initially trusted the bounce on this wicket as he left the ball. However, the ball went on to hit the top of the off-stump and Shardul dismissed the big-hitter.
