The first T20I between India and West Indies turned out to be an absolute feast for the spectators at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The T20I series opener has been done and dusted and the match ended in favour of India. The hosts won the game by six wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first. West Indies posted 157/7 in 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with 61 off 43 balls. He built the innings with the help of 5 sixes and 4 boundaries. On the contrary, Ravi Bishnoi had a memorable debut as he took 2 wickets, giving away 17 runs.

In reply, India switched gears with the help of Rohit Sharma. Team India’s white-ball skipper was in a hurry to finish things off earlier as he got off to a rollicking start. During the last ball of the second over bowled by Romario Shepherd, Rohit generated immense bat speed combined with sheer timing against the ball.

The end result came out well as the flick of his wrist hauled the ball in the stands. More importantly, commentator Harsha Bhogle was mighty impressed with the shot. The renowned commentator said, “the sound of that.” The video clip has gone viral on the internet.

Rohit Sharma top-scored with 40 off just 19 balls. He smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes and had a strike rate of 210.33. In the end, Suryakumar Yadav (34) and Venkatesh Iyer (24) combined together and added a match-winning 48-run stand for the fifth wicket.

India won the game by six wickets in 18.5 overs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. The second T20I will be held on February 18 at the same venue. West Indies find themselves in a troublesome scenario at the moment. They need to win the next game to stay alive in the series.
