The Islanders got off to a flying start before Bangladesh made a superb comeback to have Sri Lanka at 79/4 from 71/0. Two dropped catches from Mahmudullah cost the Bangla Tigers as Asalanka and Rajapaksa grabbed the opportunity to gift Sri Lanka a five-wicket victory.

Speaking at the end of the game, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka lauded his batters for putting up an extraordinary performance on a difficult wicket. He said:
“Not the easiest target to chase. It’s all about boundaries. Once the batsman gets set, any target is chaseable. Really important to win the first game. They batted really well. Those knocks are brilliant (Asalanka and Rajapaksa).”
