The former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has made a massive omission from the Indian batting line-up in the upcoming T20 World Cup as he has left out the former skipper Virat Kohli from his top three batters. The destructive opener reckons that KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Rohit Sharma should be India’s top three in the mega-event.

As per Virender Sehwag, the left-hand and right-hand combination at the top is likely to serve India better. An opening combination of Ishan Kishan alongside KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma would be ‘interesting.’ Ishan Kishan made his T20I debut in March 2021. Since then, the left-handed batter has amassed 521 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.73 and a strike rate of 134.97.

Ishan Kishan was also the top scorer of the recently-concluded five-match T20I series against South Africa. He scored 206 runs in 5 matches at a brilliant strike rate of over 150.

“Ishan, KL, and Rohit should be India’s top three” – Virender Sehwag

“India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s, said Sehwag in a conversation on Sony Network.

“However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia. The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20”, Virender Sehwag added.

Virat Kohli is arguably the greatest batter of the current era. However, he has been going through a lean patch of form over the last couple of years.

Sehwag also talked about the inclusion of Mohammad Shami and Umran Malik in India’s T20 World Cup team. The former opener is ‘impressed’ with the express pacer from Jammu and Kashmir, who made his national debut in the first game of the Ireland T20I series.

“If there is one pacer who has thoroughly impressed me, of late, it is none other than Umran Malik. He should definitely be part of India’s plans as one of the key bowlers alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami,” said Virender Sehwag.
