Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli is arguably the biggest cricketer in the world at the moment. He is one of the best to grace the game of cricket and already is a modern-day legend. The right-handed batter from Delhi has been a major force behind India’s success across the format in the last decade.

Virat Kohli’s contribution to the Indian team hasn’t come only as a batter but he has also been one of the most successful skippers in all formats. Especially in Test Cricket, Virat Kohli turned the Indian team into a force to reckon with even outside Asia. In fact, one can even argue that the Delhi batter is India’s greatest-ever Test skipper.

Virat Kohli was appointed the captain of the Indian team in Test during the Test series against Australia when then-skipper MS Dhoni retired from Test cricket midway through the tour. Meanwhile, the right-handed batter was appointed the captain of the Indian team in all formats in 2017 as MS Dohin ensured a smooth transition of power with the ODI World Cup 2019 in sight.

Virat’s aggressive form of captaincy did wonders for the Indian cricket team across all formats but he failed to win an ICC trophy during his tenure. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Virat Kohli announced that he will relinquish the captaincy duties in the shortest format of the game. However, the national selectors wanted only one skipper across the formats, hence, they relieved Kohli from the captaincy duties across all formats.

Meanwhile, in this post, we will take a look at Virat Kohli’s captaincy record in Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and the IPL as well.
