As per the latest developments, the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the Ireland tour. The all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to lead Team India in the two-game T20I series, while the pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named his deputy. Meanwhile, the biggest story from the squad is the maiden national call-up for the Maharashtra batter Rahul Tripathi.

India will play two T20 games against Ireland on the 26th of June and the 28th of June in Dublin, ahead of the England tour. While there are not many changes in the Indian T20I squad from the South Africa series, the stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant has been rested as he will feature in the rescheduled Test against England. Shreyas Iyer is also a part of the Indian Test squad for England, hence, he also misses out.

The selection of Rahul Tripathi is the major headline from the squad selection as the BCCI received a ton of criticism for overlooking the SRH batter in the South Africa series. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has also returned to the squad from injury and Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson has received another shot at the redemption.

Rahul Tripathi earns his maiden national call-up

The 31-year-old batter was in a prime form during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League. He has been one of the most consistent uncapped players in the tournament in the last couple of seasons.

While representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2022, Rahul Tripathi made the number three a position of his own as the batter amassed 413 runs in 14 matches at a mighty impressive strike rate of over 158. He is likely to bat at number three for India as well in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
