Australian opener David Warner led Delhi Capitals from the front against his former side Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial game on Thursday.
Delhi Capitals are currently locking horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 50th game of the IPL 2022 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. It is a vital fixture for both sides, as a loss for Delhi Capitals will push them closer to the elimination while Sunrisers Hyderabad are already on a two-game losing run.
Before the game, all eyes were on David Warner, who played against his former side Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Aussie opener is the most successful batter and the skipper of the Orange Army.
However, amid a poor season with the bat, the Hyderabad-based franchise removed Warner from captaincy and even dropped him from the playing 11 last season. They released the left-hander ahead of the IPL 2022, and Delhi Capitals signed him in the auctions.
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson chose to bowl after winning the toss. David Warner and his new partner Mandeep Singh walked in to open for Delhi Capitals.
David Warner carries his bat with an unbeaten ninety
The left-handed southpaw took his time early on to get his eyes in and played on-song Bhuvneshwar Kumar sensibly. Soon after, he charged Umran Malik to score 21 runs off the youngster’s over.
Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets on one end, but David Warner kept the innings together. Moreover, he never let the opposition press with his attacking approach and soon completed another fifty this season.
David Warner got able support from the West Indian Rovman Powell as the duo added 122 runs off 66 deliveries for the 4th wicket. While David Warner returned unbeaten on 92 runs off 58 deliveries, Rowman Powell returned unbeaten on 67 runs off 35 deliveries as Delhi Capitals posted a massive total of 207/3 in 20 overs.
