On Wednesday, the national selectors announced a 17-player squad of India for the two-game T20I series on the Ireland tour. While most of the players that are currently a part of the Indian team in the ongoing series against South Africa retained their place, Rahul Tripathi received his maiden national call-up.
Suryakumar also returned to the national side after recovering from the injury and Hardik Pandya has been named the captain for the first time in his career, while the veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named his deputy.
The BCCI will keep a keen eye on the performers in the two-game T20I series starting on the 26th of June. With the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year, the youngsters will look to impress the selectors and seal their ticket to Australia. However, a few notable performers have been overlooked during the selection and now, they might find it difficult to stay in the contention for the World Cup squad.
3 unlucky Indian players to miss out on Ireland tour:
1. Prithvi Shaw
With India looking to play the attacking brand of cricket and Ruturaj Gaikwad blowing hot and cold at the top, Prithvi Shaw could be the perfect opener for the Men in Blue on the Ireland tour. Moreover, the youngster likes the pace and bounce as he plays pull and cut to perfection and could be an asset on the Aussie wickets as well.
Shaw looked in great touch during the IPL 2022 before he missed several games due to covid. The Mumbai batter amassed 283 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 152.97.
