On Wednesday, the national selectors announced a 17-player squad of India for the two-game T20I series on the Ireland tour. While most of the players that are currently a part of the Indian team in the ongoing series against South Africa retained their place, Rahul Tripathi received his maiden national call-up.

Suryakumar also returned to the national side after recovering from the injury and Hardik Pandya has been named the captain for the first time in his career, while the veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named his deputy.

The BCCI will keep a keen eye on the performers in the two-game T20I series starting on the 26th of June. With the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year, the youngsters will look to impress the selectors and seal their ticket to Australia. However, a few notable performers have been overlooked during the selection and now, they might find it difficult to stay in the contention for the World Cup squad.
