There are no questions over Mohammad Shami’s place in the Indian team in ODI and Test cricket. However, after the debacle of the T20 World Cup 2021, the selectors made their intent clear to look for further pace bowling options instead of Shami.

The veteran pacer had a great IPL season but the selectors kept on overlooking him for the younger talent. However, courtesy of a fortunate injury to Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the multinational event, the Indian team management was forced to recall the veteran pacer to lead the Indian attack down under.

This tournament will be the key to Mohammed Shami’s T20I future as a solid display will keep him in the scheme of things, while an underwhelming display with the ball in the mega event might bring down the curtains on his T20I career.
