Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel earn central contract from BCCI

Dhruv Jurel will play for RR in IPL 2024 while Sarfaraz Khan isn't part of any franchise.

India’s two new batting superstars, Sarfaraz Khan, and wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel earned their well-deserved central contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They fulfilled the required criteria of three Tests in a current season. Both of them are included in the Group C of the list with an annual fee of INR 1 crore.

The development came during the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Monday. Both batters played a massive role in their debut Test series against England to gain a 4-1 series victory.

Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel showed fabulous performances against England

A standout performer in domestic cricket for Mumbai, Sarfaraz Khan made his Test debut during the third Test in Rajkot. The Agra boy, Jurel too made his first appearance in the same encounter. The former, unfortunately, missed out on his maiden Test century thanks to a run-out on 62. The 21-year-old, on the other hand, showed sheer patience for his vital knock of 46 runs.

During the fourth Test in Ranchi, Jurel won the ‘Player of the Match’ award with scores of 90 and unbeaten 39 in a tricky fourth innings chase. He finished the series with 190 runs in four innings at an average of 63.33 with one fifty. The 26-year-old Sarfaraz notched up 200 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 79.86 with three half-centuries in the series.

The list of the central contract for the 2023/24 season was declared in February. It raised eyebrows with the omission of especially Shreyas Iyer even after his terrific 2023 World Cup performances. BCCI revealed that if both Jurel and Sarfaraz played three Tests in the ongoing season, then only they would get their award.

Having played three successive Tests in Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala, both of them fulfilled the standard. They would now again make an appearance in white shirts during India’s home series against New Zealand and Bangladesh towards the end of this year.
