Matthew Hayden names his all-time ODI World XI, snubs Virat Kohli

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has named his all time ODI World Cup XI. Surprisingly, he did not pick Virat Kohli in the XI, which raised the eyebrows of the cricket community. Recently, the popular Pakistani journalist shared a pic of Matthew Hayden’s all time World Cup XI.

According to the journalist, the former Australian cricketer has ignored Virat Kohli from the list. Perhaps Matthew Hayden’s decision to ignore Virat Kohli in his all time ODI World Cup XI was probably right, because he made this prediction back in 2014, just before the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2015.

At that point of time, Virat Kohli was just carving out a reputation for himself as a great batsman. He picked up lessons on the go before cementing an irrefutable claim to greatness. Today, he is one of the best in the business. Back at that time, Virat Kohli played just one ODI World Cup.

The Pakistani journalist took to his official X (previously Twitter) and shared an image along with the caption. “No Virat Kohli in Matthew Hayden’s all-time ODI World Cup XI” Besides that, he also attached two frustrating emojis and the post garnered traction among the fans of the cricket fraternity.

In the 2011 World Cup edition, he scored 282 runs in nine games, including one century. At that time, he was not the great batsman but was on the steep learning curve. However, a lot has changed in the last decade as Virat Kohli dominated across all three formats of the game.

Kohli brought up his 50th ODI century against New Zealand in ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semi final match. Meanwhile, he is just 152 runs away from hitting another milestone, as he will be eying the 14,000 run feat and he will be looking forward to achieving it in the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
