Krunal Pandya’s eight close contacts test negative for Covid-19; ruled out of entire series

Krunal Pandya tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday just ahead of 2nd T20I between India and Sri Lanka.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka has by far been a spectacular experience for the youngsters. They picked up the lessons on the go under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid. The youngsters expressed themselves very well. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Prithvi Shaw performed when it mattered the most.

India won the ODI series by 2-1 before clinching the T20I opener. With two more games to go, a major development took place after senior cricketer Krunal Pandya tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic. Because of him, the second T20I which was supposed to get underway on Tuesday was postponed to the subsequent day.

Krunal Pandya has been ruled out of the T20I series. He will be isolated for as many as 7 days. In the wake of this, the whole Indian camp was supposed to undergo RT-PCR tests to ignore any further infection in the Indian squad.

Meanwhile, the medical team learnt that eight members were in close contact with Krunal Pandya. Needless to say, as per reports, in good news, the RT-PCR test was conducted for those eight players and they were tested negative for coronavirus.

Unfortunately, these players will miss the rest of the T20Is as part of safety measures as per TOI. Previously, BCCI announced the rescheduled dates for the second and third T20I. The second T20I has been scheduled for Wednesday, while the third and final match will be held on July 29.

“The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28,” the statement from the BCCI read.

So far, the Indian team have played really well in the ongoing tour. They took the first lead in the three-match T20I series. This means that they are just a win away from sealing yet another series. They have a great chance of accomplishing that feat today in Colombo.
