Venkatesh Iyer’s inconsistent form during the IPL 2022 meant India opt to open with the left-right combination of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the South Africa T20I series.

Ishan Kishan looked in a brilliant form during the series and emerged as the highest run-getter at the conclusion of it. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad looked a bit off-colour barring a match-winning fifty in the 3rd T20I game.

However, Venkatesh Iyer’s form with the bat hasn’t been inspiring lately and the all-rounder might not able to displace Gaikwad at the top. The team management might look to continue with the settled opening combo during the T20I series.
