IPL 2025: Five players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should purchase at Mega Auction

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have etched their name in IPL history as the most successful franchise, with five trophies to their name. Renowned for their consistency, CSK have always been a team that thrives on retaining a strong core and backing their players.

In IPL 2024, however, CSK faced a rare disappointment. Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, they narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, finishing fifth on the points table. Their campaign came to a heartbreaking end with a loss to arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore in a must-win game.

Heading into the IPL 2025 auction, CSK have chosen to stick to their tried-and-tested approach by retaining their core group of players namely Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni.

This core group provides CSK with a mix of experience and youth as they gear up for another shot at the title. They will also need other top players at their arsenal in order to have a realistic chance to win the trophy for the sixth time. Let’s take a glimpse at the five players whom CSK should buy at the mega auction, which is slated to be held on November 24 and 25 in Saudi Arabia.

1. James Anderson

The English pace legend has thrown his hat into the auction ring at a base price of INR 2 crore. Anderson, despite his age, continues to showcase his mastery with the ball, particularly with his ability to swing it in the powerplay.

CSK previously invested heavily in Deepak Chahar for similar skills but might view Anderson as a cost-effective alternative. It will be quite interesting to see what the future holds in store for Anderson.
