A huge controversy broke out after Mumbai Indians didn’t play the game in the right spirit. In fact, the five-time IPL champions were accused of cheating during the recently-concluded game against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh.

The incident happened during the last ball of the 15th over when Arshdeep Singh tried to deceive Suryakumar Yadav by pitching the ball outside the off-stump. Suryakumar nearly tried to move towards the left hand side to get into his comfort zone in the first place.

As it turned out, the batsman missed the ball completely and Suryakumar was even convinced that it was the right delivery. Meanwhile, Tim David, who watched the replay on TV from the dugout immediately signaled Suryakumar to take a review for a wide ball.

As a result, the batter decided to take the review and even the on-field umpire acknowledged it. PBKS’ stand-in captain Sam Curran who witnessed all the drama quickly went up to the umpire to protest that Tim David played a part in helping his own teammate take a review.

However, the umpire ignored Sam Curran’s protests and the video clip of the same has gone viral. The TV replay showed that the white ball went past the tramline. As a result, the third umpire asked the on-field umpire to overturn the decision and call it a ‘wide’.

Mumbai Indians register their third win in IPL 2024

The five-time IPL champions posted a pretty good total of 192/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was the pick of the batters as he top-scored with 78 off 53 balls including seven fours and three hits over the fence at a strike rate of 147.17.

In response, the Mohali-based franchise gave absolutely everything in the run-chase but fell short of the target. The game was still on when PBKS required 12 runs off the last over. However, Hardik Pandya and Co. defended the target and clinched the last over thriller.

With this, MI registered their third win of this season. Currently, they are at the seventh place in the points table with six points. On the contrary, the Mohali-based franchise who won two out of the seven games are placed ninth on the table with four points.
