IPL 2023: Twitter trolls Mumbai Indians as five-time champions lost against RCB in a one-sided encounter
Mumbai Indians have failed to win their opening IPL game since 2012
In the battle between two heavyweights, Mumbai Indians failed to turn up as they were bettered by Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first game of the IPL 2023. Over the years, the Mumbai-based franchise has earned a reputation for being slow starters. On Sunday evening, they entered the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against RCB in search of their first win in their opening game of the IPL since 2012.
However, things didn’t go as per plan for them as Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited Rohit Sharma & co. to bat first. Mumbai Indians’ batters failed to capitalize on the batting-friendly conditions as they lost their top three batters, including Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Cameron Green inside the powerplay.
Tilak Varma alongside Suryakumar Yadav tried to build a partnership but the former soon threw away the start to send Mumbai Indians into tatters. Young Tilak Varma was the only positive for the Blues in this game as the left-handed batter played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 84 runs off 46 deliveries to take his team to a fighting total of 171/7 in 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians fail to stop Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli
RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis alongside his opening partner Virat Kohli, came out with attacking intent as they put the visitors under pressure from the very first delivery. The opening duo added 148 runs off 89 deliveries for the first wicket to bat MI out of the game.
While Faf du Plessis scored 73 runs off 43 deliveries, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten for 82 runs off 49 deliveries. In the end, RCB hunted down the total in 16.2 overs to hand Mumbai Indians an 8-wicket defeat.
Twitter didn’t miss a chance to criticize Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma for their lacklustre performance.
