IPL 2023: Predicted XI of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the season
KKR will have Nitish Rana as their captain in absence of Shreyas Iyer.
Bowlers: Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee
There were several instances of Sunil Narine operating as an opener for KKR in the IPL. He is best known for his batting exploits and is capable of hitting sixes and fours with ease. Since the opening slot is perfectly occupied, Narine might as well dictate terms with the bat further down the pecking order. He scored 1025 runs at a strike rate of 162.7 including four fifties.
On the other hand, he has been successful as a bowler. He took 162 wickets at an impressive economy of 6.63 including one fifer. Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner was also retained by the franchise ahead of the auction. Having played 42 games in the IPL, he has taken a total of 42 wickets to his name at an economy of 7.22 including one fifer.
Umesh Yadav is also one of the players who was retained by KKR ahead of the mini-auction. He has played as many as 133 games in the IPL. Notably, he took 135 wickets at an economy of 8.36 including 3 four-wicket hauls. KKR retained Tim Southee ahead of the mini-auction and is expected to dictate terms with the ball. He took 45 wickets in 52 appearances in the IPL.
