It was a clash of the Titans as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squared off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the South Indian derby of the IPL 2022 on Wednesday night.

It was a crucial game for both sides as Chennai Super Kings were looking at the elimination from the tournament with a loss, while Royal Challengers Bangalore were on a three-game losing run ahead of this match. Another loss here would have damaged their bid to qualify for the playoffs.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and invited Faf du Plessis and co. to bat first. The Reds made a decent start to the game with an opening stand of 62 runs between the skipper and Virat Kohli. However, the Bangalore-based franchise quickly lost the plot in between after losing three wickets. The left-handed youngster Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing impetus to RCB’s innings to take them to a par total of 173/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing the total, CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals to keep the opposition in the game. Devon Conway scored his 2nd consecutive fifty, but no other batter supported him on the other end to take the Super Kings home.

Brilliant death bowling seals the game for RCB

At a point in time, Chennai Super Kings required 52 runs in the last four overs, with Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni present at the crease. However, a brilliant spell of death bowling from Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel didn’t allow the dangerous duo to get away with the game.

While Hazlewood gave away only 19 runs in his four overs for one wicket, Harshal Patel accounted for three CSK wickets despite bowling the difficult overs.

With this win, RCB have entered the top four in the points table with six wins and five losses after 11 matches. Meanwhile, CSK have been eliminated from the competition.

Twitter exploded as soon MS Dhoni got out in the chase and bashed the Yellow Army while praising the Reds.
