IPL 2022 to be played in India, confirms BCCI secretary Jay Shah

The next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to take India, confirmed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. Incidentally, the second half of IPL 2021 was shifted to the UAE amid the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

With IPL 2022 six months away, Jay Shah stated that the upcoming season will be bigger and better with two new teams joining and the fans will be able to watch it from the stands.

“I know you are all eagerly waiting to watch Chennai Super Kings play at Chepauk. The moment is not very far, the 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting with new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up to see what the new combination looks like,” said Jay Shah during an event in Chennai.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most successful team in the competition with four titles under their belt after Mumbai Indians’ five. Jay Shah said that Chennai’s success can mostly be attributed to N Srinivasan, the owner of the side.

“A lot of credit for CSK’s success over the years has to go to N Srinivasan as he has stood by his team in the difficult times. I must add that Kasi Viswanathan is like a glue that binds the team together. Season by season he has navigated the team, Jay Shah said.

“How can one take CSK lightly when you have a captain like MS Dhoni. Dhoni is the heartbeat and backbone of CSK. Mahi is the most successful captain India has ever produced. The bond he has made and the legacy he has created will stay for ages,” he added.

The MS Dhoni-led CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final to lift their fourth IPL trophy. They will look to hold on majority of their players going into the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022.
