IPL 2022: Glenn Phillips reveals the reason behind his absence from SRH squad

Sunrisers Hyderabad will miss the service of New Zealand batsman Glenn Phillips in the first couple of matches of IPL 2022. Incidentally, Phillips was roped in at the IPL 2022 mega auction for his base price of INR 1.5 crores.

Meanwhile, a total of 12 players from New Zealand will be playing in the IPL 2022. While the likes of Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson among others have joined their respective franchises, Glenn Phillips is yet to arrive in India.

The hard-hitting batsman recently issued an explanation to his fans for his derailment in joining the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp for IPL 2022. The Auckland-based cricketer broke the silence and confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Taking to Instagram story, Glenn Phillips wrote:

“For those who keep asking- I am stuck in NZ due to a positive PCR travel test. I will be joining SRH as soon as I can.”

While his arrival date is not known yet, Glenn Phillips will be pumped up to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad and begin his training as soon as possible.

Glenn Phillips represented Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021

Last year, Phillips was roped in by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement of England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler for the second half of the tournament in the UAE.

Glenn Phillips three matches for the Rajasthan franchise and managed to score only 20 runs in three innings at a dismal average of 13.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old cricketer has been a regular feature in New Zealand’s T20 squad. Overall, he has played 35 games, scoring 645 runs at an average of just over 25, including a century and two fifties.

Phillips will hope to repay the trust shown by the Sunrisers Hyderabad management and play a pivotal role for the side when he joins the squad.
