IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant almost whacks Dinesh Karthik with his bat

Rishabh Pant failed to finish on high note for his side.

Delhi Capitals crossed swords with Kolkata Knight Riders today at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Rishabh Pant-led got off to a steady start in the form of Steven Smith and Shikhar Dhawan. The duo added 35 runs for the opening wicket.

While DC looked to switch gears, Lockie Ferguson provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Shikhar Dhawan for 24 off 20 balls. The southpaw struck 5 fours to his name. Shreyas Iyer who has been in good form with the bat failed to deliver the goods as he got out after scoring just 1 run.

Rishabh Pant joined alongside Steve Smith in an attempt to steady the ship. However, the partnership didn’t last long as Lockie Ferguson made a complete mess of Smith’s stumps. Smith departed after scoring 39 off 34 balls including 4 fours. Meanwhile, Pant did his best to score runs cautiously.

Meanwhile, there came a moment when Rishabh Pant nearly hit Dinesh Karthik with the bat. The incident happened during the first ball of the 16th over when Varun Chakravarthy bowled to Pant. As it happened, the DC captain tried the flick the ball towards the offside.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t get a proper connection with the ball as he bottom edged onto the deck. The white leather bounced up in the follow-through. Well, the ball could have easily hit the stumps. In an attempt to stop the ball from crashing onto the stumps, the DC captain attempted to swat the ball away with the bat.

In the process, Rishabh Pant nearly hit former KKR captain Dinesh Karthik’s helmet. Luckily, no damage was done. The TV replays show that was too close. Eventually, the young wicketkeeper and veteran wicketkeeper shared a smile.
