Finally, the long wait is over as Virat Kohli has managed to breach the three-figure mark in Test cricket after scoring a brilliant century against Australia in the final Test. After facing a slump in his form after 2019, the former India skipper returned to his best in white ball cricket. However, he could not do much with the bat in the first three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

The wait for a hundred in Test cricket was getting longer with each passing game but Virat Kohli’s patience finally paid off as he scored a gritty century in the Ahmedabad Test. The century came after a long haul of three years and three months and most importantly, it came in a must-win game for India.

India and Australia are currently going toe-to-toe against each other at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India won the first two Tests but the Aussies managed to bounce back by winning the third Test. Australia have already booked their place in the WTC final but India must win this fixture to secure their berth.

Australian skipper Steven Smith won the toss on the flat track of Ahmedabad and decided to bat first. The visitors posted a massive total of 480 courtesy of the brilliant centuries of Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green. In reply, India started strong thanks to a blistering century from Shubman Gill. However, India needed more from other batters as well to overhaul the big first innings total from Australia.

After the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara, King Kohli built stitched vital partnerships alongside Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja. He kept the Indian innings together from one end as other batters played around him.

It was an innings filled with determination as Virat Kohli scored only five boundaries on his way to the 28th Test century. The century came after a long wait of three years and three months. Meanwhile, it was his 75th international century overall. At the time of writing, King Kohli is still batting at a score of 110 as India trail Australia by 64 runs with five wickets in hand.
