Marking his return to Test cricket, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma smashed a brilliant century to take his team ahead in the first game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Batting on a tough pitch, the Hitman looked positive from the very first ball and led his side from the front. After a solid opening partnership with KL Rahul, he kept losing partners from the other end but Sharma ensured a first-innings lead for the home side.
India and Australia are currently locking horns in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. The Kangaroos won the all-important toss and decided to bat first. However, barring Marnus Labuschagne, no other batter could find the answer to the Indian spin bowling as India bundled them out for 177.
In reply, Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing as he smashed Pat Cummins for three boundaries in the very first over of the innings. The Indian skipper added 76 runs alongside KL Rahul for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed at the stroke of the stumps on day one.
Rohit Sharma smashes a ton to put India on front
On the second day, the Aussies bounced back strongly after they dismissed the night watchman Ravi Ashwin early in the day. They didn’t allow the Indian middle-order to settle in as the debutant Todd Murphy dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli in quick succession. Soon, Nathan Lyon also joined the party as he castled Suryakumar Yadav.
However, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma kept scoring runs and he soon reached his 9th Test ton. At the time of the writing, the Indian skipper is trying to stitch a partnership with Ravindra Jadeja as India have notched up a 14-run lead.
The fans were very impressed with Rohit’s temperament on such a difficult batting track and they could not stop themselves from praising the Hitman.
