“I would keep him ahead” – Harbhajan Singh backs Yuzvendra Chahal for T20 World Cup 2024

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has raised his voice against the management of Team India for neglecting veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the T20I format.

When asked about his top three spin picks for India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Harbhajan said he would put Chahal ahead of everyone else. He believes Chahal is the best leg-spinner in the country and no one is braver than him.

“I would keep Yuzvendra Chahal ahead (for the first slot among spinners). He is being ignored; I don’t know why. I don’t think he knows as well. But even today, I don’t think there is a better leg-spinner in the country. And I don’t think there is a braver spinner than him. He has a very sharp mind,” Harbhajan said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The 43-year-old then picked all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the second-choice spinner. To conclude the list, he highlighted the importance of an off-spinner in the playing XI and hence named Washington Sundar.

The second spinner for me would be Ravindra Jadeja. You need to have an off-spinner in Washington Sundar as well. Now, what selectors think, what the management thinks, is a different thing,” he added.

Will Yuzvendra Chahal bounce back in IPL 2024?

Once a front-line spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal is not struggling to keep his position in the national side. While he played his last T20I match in August last year, it’s been a year since he represented the Men in Blue in the ODI format.

IPL 2024 will be of great importance for all the players as the mega-event is scheduled just after its conclusion. If Chahal performs well in the league, he might get a call-up by the selectors. Otherwise, it would be very tough for the right-handed spinner to play in the World Cup when his competitors are being preferred ahead of him.
