Former India head coach and the world-cup winner – Ravi Shastri turned 60 on Friday. The whole cricketing fraternity, including some top players and biggest of the names in the Indian cricket, wished the lively personality on his birthday. The former all-rounder is known for his fierce and carefree attitude and he is one of the biggest characters in the game has ever seen.
In his celebrated career, the former India skipper won the ICC World Cup in 1983 alongside the World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985. Ravi Shastri represented India across 80 Tests and 150 ODI games, where the all-rounder has amassed 6938 runs and scalped 280 wickets in international cricket. He also became the first-ever cricketer to smash six maximums in a first-class game when he hit Tilak Raj for six sixes in an over during a Ranji Trophy match between Bombay and Baroda in 1985.
After retirement, Ravi Shastri has established himself as one of the most-heard voices in the game. He also coach the Indian cricket team for several years and turned them into a lethal force in red-ball cricket in overseas conditions.
Ravi Shastri has carved his own niche in the commentary
Known as one of the boldest gentlemen, Shastri is revered for his passionate commentary during the cricket matches. He enjoys a huge fanbase for his commentary style and quirky catchphrases. Who could forget his iconic line “Dhoni finishes it off in style” on India’s 2011 World Cup triumph? A term like ‘Tracer Bullet’ is synonymous with the former India all-rounder.
The former India coach is a staunch supporter of the philosophy of ‘Work Hard and Party Harder.’ The man keeps no filters to apply the philosophy in real-life and now the fans alongside the cricket fraternity have wished the best for Ravi Shastri on his 60th birthday, coincidently falling on a Friday.
