Dewald Brevis likely to be selected for South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad: Reports

Over the years, South Africa has produced many great batters, including Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, and Faf du Plessis. However, one name stood out from them all – AB de Villiers.

AB de Villiers is arguably the greatest Proteas batter of all time, given his ability to dominate in all formats. He was a 360 degree player with the prowess of smashing the bowlers all around the park. Unfortunately, his retirement left a big hole in the South African batting line-up, and the Proteas have been searching for an able replacement ever since.

During the U19 World Cup 2022, a youngster knocked on the world cricketing door and made everyone sit and take notice of his talent. Moreover, he has given South Africa hope of filling the void in their batting line-up.

The youngster is none other than Dewald Brevis. He is fearless, aggressive, and way mature for his age. His batting style is very similar to AB de Villiers; hence he already has earned himself the nickname of ‘Baby AB.’

Dewald Brevis took the U19 World Cup 2022 by storm and emerged as the top-scorer of the tournament with 506 runs in 6 matches at an average of 84.33.

His performances attracted the attention of the IPL franchises, and subsequently, he was signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 mega auctions for INR 3 crores. The youngster has not backed down in the ‘League of Men’ and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Dewald Brevis to play T20 World Cup for South Africa

If reports are believed, South African selectors are likely to select Brevis for the upcoming T20I series against India. They want to test the youngster against the best side in the world, keeping an eye on the T20 World Cup.

If he continues to grow in stature with consistent performances, South African selectors will likely pick him for the T20 World Cup squad.

For those who don’t know, the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia later this year in October and November.
