Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore are two powerhouses in the history of the Indian Premier League. When these two teams lock horns with each other, it is more than just a game but a roller coaster ride of emotions.
For the record, the match between CSK and RCB is popularly known as the “South Indian derby” or “Namma Derby”. Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League with four IPL titles in their trophy cabinet. They have perfected the art of qualifying for the playoffs, except for IPL 2020 and 2022 seasons respectively.
Chennai Super Kings are the only team that made it to the finals on nine occasions in their journey. However, they managed to go past the victory line on four occasions by pulling the trigger in the final showdowns. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals of IPL 2010, IPL 2011, IPL 2018 and IPL 2021 respectively.
On the other side of the coin, Royal Challengers Bangalore lacked enough teeth and the killer instinct to gun for the title. In fact, they have made it to the finals on three occasions (IPL 2010, IPL 2011 and IPL 2016). Unfortunately, they failed to win any title. They lost to Deccan Chargers (now-defunct franchise), Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals.
