Every professional cricketer wants to represent their country at the highest level. Furthermore, representing the nation in a major ICC event at the World Cup is a matter of pride for every cricketer. If you ask any cricketer on this planet about their dream, most of them will tell you that winning the World Cup for their nation is their ultimate dream.

While playing a World Cup game remains a priority for every cricketer, there have been some weird instances where a player has missed a World Cup game or the whole tournament courtesy of an unusual reason. In this post, we will talk about five players and the weird reasons that forced them to miss World Cup games.

5. Shimron Hetmyer – Missed the flight (T20 World Cup 2022)

With the seniors already retired, West Indies are looking to get back to their best in the shorter format of the game. The team from the Caribbean had high hopes for their attacking middle-order batter Shimron Hetmyer. However, the left-handed southpaw missed his flight to Australia despite rescheduling. The West Indies cricket board has now taken action against the batter and dropped him from the World Cup squad.

4. Ravindra Jadeja – Injured himself while doing adventurous activity (T20 World Cup 2022)

Ravindra Jadeja is a pivotal player in India’s white-ball set-up. His ability with the bat provides a much-needed balance to the Indian set-up. However, the star all-rounder reportedly injured himself while skateboarding during the 2022 Asia Cup. The all-rounder had to go through surgery following the injury and had to miss out on India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.

3. Devon Conway – Punched his hand to bat in frustration (T20 World Cup 2021)

After reaching the final of the T20 World Cup 2021, New Zealand had a chance to leave behind the failure of two past ODI World Cup final heartbreaks. However, their key player and opener Devon Conway punched his bat in frustration after getting out in the semifinals. He injured his hand in the process and had to sit out of the final against Australia.

2. Jonny Bairstow – Freak accident while playing golf (T20 World Cup 2022)

The English batter is one of the most attacking players going around. However, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batter had a freak accident while playing golf in his free time. As a result, Jonny Bairstow had to withdraw from England’s squad for the T20 World Cup down under.

1. Jofra Archer – Injury due to fish tank (T20 World Cup 2021)

Ever since his debut, Jofra Archer has established himself as one of the most fearful pacers across all formats. The right-handed pacer was a key player in the English side ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. However, Archer injured himself badly while cleaning the fish tank ahead of the mega event. As a result, he missed the T20 Carnival that was held in the UAE.
