KL Rahul likely to leave Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2022: Reports
KL Rahul did well with the bat in IPL 2021 season.
In the latest development from the Punjab Kings camp, Lokesh Rahul is all set to part ways with PBKS ahead of IPL 2022 season. The 29-year-old has been one of the consistent run-scorers for Punjab Kings since 2018. Nonetheless, he failed to steer his side to the maiden IPL title. He has often led the batting attack by example.
However, PBKS didn’t get all the bases covered like other top teams. They finished sixth in the IPL 2020 points table. Talking about this season, they once again finished at the same sixth position. PBKS didn’t see any sign of improvement even after changing the name from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings.
The right-handed batsman has essayed over 600 runs in three of the four editions for Punjab Kings. But he missed out on scoring more than 600 runs in the 2019 season. He aggregated 593 runs in that season.
Upon observing his consistency with the bat, the franchise made him the captain ahead of the IPL 2020 season. Although he won the Orange Cap in the last season, his team failed to live up to the reputation.
KL Rahul has been approached by other teams in IPL
Meanwhile, according to a report in Cricbuzz, KL Rahul may not represent PBKS. It means he is likely to part ways with the franchise and be up for grabs in the mega auction. As per the reports, the flamboyant cricketer has already been approached by multiple teams. The franchises have shown a great deal of interest to sign him.
According to reports, the mega auction for IPL 2022 will happen during the T20 World Cup. It remains to be seen whether or not Rahul gets a new franchise or not. In addition, two new teams are set to come in the IPL set-up as well.
