Ashish Nehra backs Devdutt Padikkal as future Royal Challengers Bangalore captain
Virat Kohli's decision to leave captaincy left many stunned.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are one of the three teams that are yet to win a title since the start of the IPL. They have enough resources and players to compete with top teams. However, they missed out on winning the final on three occasions. Whatever has happened has happened.
Now, they will look to give everything to win the title for the first time. Royal Challengers Bangalore were the third team to qualify for the playoffs this season. They are third in the standings with 9 wins and 5 defeats with a net run rate of -0.159 and secured 16 points. They will lock horns with Delhi Capitals tomorrow at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
Earlier, Virat Kohli made his stance very clear that he will step down as RCB captain after the end of this season. Meanwhile, questions were raised as to who would lead RCB in the future. While a certain section of the fans want AB de Villiers to be the future captain, former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra had his say on future RCB captain.
Devdutt Padikkal would fill Virat Kohli’s shoes as future RCB captain: Ashish Nehra
Virat Kohli will fully focus on his batting as he will step down as RCB captain after IPL 2021. Ashish Nehra believes that Devdutt Padikkal has all the potential to fill Kohi’s shoes as a future RCB captain.
While talking to Cricbuzz, Ashish Nehra said, “Devdutt Padikkal has the ability to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore team effectively. If the team is looking for a player as the captain for a long time, then they will have to hand over the captaincy to Padikkal.”
Nehra also highlighted that Devdutt Padikkal seems to be the only possible option, given that he has been doing well in domestic cricket at such a young age. The southpaw has aggregated as many as 822 runs in 26 games in IPL. He registered his best score of 101* off 52 balls against Rajasthan Royals.
