Sheldon Cottrell pulls off the ropes from the jaws of defeat with a last ball six in CPL 2021
Sheldon Cottrell was named the man of the match.
If there is one team in the Caribbean Premier League that has ticked the boxes in every aspect, then it has to be St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They are the only team yet to lose a game in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League.
The Patriots continued their dream run when they got the better of Barbados Royals in the 14th match of the CPL at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. Having played 5 games this season so far, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won all five games with a net run rate of +0.657.
On the other hand, Barbados Royals are languishing at the bottom of the points table. They lost 4 games and managed to win just 1 game. The Royals still have a lot of catching up to do remain in contention for the title race. Case in point, The Patriots beat the Royals by 2 wickets in the last ball.
Batting first, Barbados Royals posted a competitive total of 160/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Smit Patel was the pick of the batsmen as he scored 54 off 48 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. Johnson Charles scored 30 off 26 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ captain Dwayne Bravo accounted for 4 dismissals.
Sheldon Cottrell smacks a six off the last ball to steer the Patriots to victory
The Patriots have performed well in the ongoing season. They delved into a string of failures last season as they finished the group stage at the bottom of the points table. However, they equipped Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle in their squad.
Sheldon Cottrell couldn’t be any happier after he single-handedly guided his side to victory when the team needed him the most. Cottrell thumped Ashley Nurse for a maximum to take the Patriots home at Warner Park. Chris Gayle top-scored with 42 off 39 including 3 fours and 2 sixes.
It is always a tricky situation when a team needs a boundary off the last ball. Either of the team has a chance to pull off the heist. The spinner Ashley Nurse tried his best to stop Cottrell but the latter smacked the ball with full force and launched it into the stands.
Cottrell remained unbeaten on 20 off 7 balls including a four and 2 sixes. He also took a wicket in his quota of 3 overs, giving away 17 runs. Cottrell was named the Man of the Match.
