IPL 2024: Flop playing XI of the season
These players failed to meet the high expectations of the management and the fans.
IPL 2024 met its end on May 26, Sunday, with KKR deservingly crowned as the champions by trouncing SRH in the show-down. The action-packed tournament saw two months of titanic battles, epic rivalries, twists and turns during the passage of play. The majority of the players, including the Impact substitutes of the all the ten franchises did their bit to help the teams when it mattered the most.
On the other side of the coin, some others failed to turn up the ante and were on the receiving end, more often than not. Despite being top guns in the truncated version, they were unable to justify their price tag and kept seeing failure after failure. We’ve compiled the list of players with below-par performances in IPL 2024, which includes six overseas players and five Indians.
1. Openers: Quinton de Kock, David Warner
It was a huge let down by Quinton de Kock as the attacking left-handed batter hardly showcased his mettle in IPL 2024. A lot was expected of him to deliver the goods as an opener but in reality, he was dismissed for cheap scores time and again. De Kock who failed to make an impact for Lucknow Super Giants amassed 250 runs at an average of 22.73 including 3 fifties.
David Warner who holds a truckload of experience in India’s premier T20 competition failed to live up to his reputation in IPL 2024. The aggressive opening batter didn’t bring the best out of himself for Delhi Capitals as he mustered just 168 runs at an average of 21 including 1 fifty.

2. Middle-order: Aiden Markram, Ajinkya Rahane and Deepak Hooda
Aiden Markram was one of the biggest flops in IPL 2024. The right-hander came under fire for his below-par performances. He scored 220 runs at an average of 24.44 and a strike rate of 124.29. Apart from a match-winning fifty against CSK in the group stage, he failed miserably as a batter. He had the chance to make the amends in the IPL 2024 final against KKR but that wasn’t meant to be the case.
Ajinkya Rahane was a formidable batting weapon for CSK in the last season wherein he approached the game with intent. Rightly so, he was able to take the bowling attack to the cleaners and score runs at a rate of knots. Unfortunately, he didn’t make a real case for himself in IPL 2024 as the bowlers kept him in check. Rahane scored 242 runs at an average of 20.17 and a strike rate of 123.47.
Deepak Hooda was statistically poor as a batsman in the just-concluded season and before he could assess the conditions, he was dismissed for cheap scores more often than not. He scored 145 runs in 11 games at an average of 18.13 and a strike rate of 138.10 including a fifty.
