IPL 2024: How can Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualify for the playoffs
CSK are third on the IPL 2024 points table with 10 points.
The playoffs’ race has just started to get heated up as the teams are battling it amongst themselves to make it to the top four. Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the table toppers whereas Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) follow next on the list.
Chennai Super Kings led by Ruturaj Gaikwad kick-started their campaign with a win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). After that, they beat Gujarat Titans to notch up their second win before they lost to Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next two games.
Nevertheless, they bounced back by registering back-to-back wins over KKR and MI. After that, they lost to Lucknow Super Giants in the next two meetings, which impacted their confidence levels. However, they turned up the ante against SRH to register their fifth win.
IPL 2024 qualification scenario for Chennai Super Kings
Having played nine games, they won five games and lost the remaining games, collecting 10 points. CSK have a healthy NRR of +0.810, which might as well be a deciding factor at the end of the league stage. Let’s learn how can CSK qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Any team that wins seven games and collects 14 points will qualify for the playoffs. In case other teams also finish with 14 points, it is when the NRR will come into the picture. It is clear that CSK need just four points, which means two more wins to qualify for the playoffs.
CSK have five more games in hand. The five-time IPL champions wouldn’t want to let their guard down as they will be aiming higher than four points, just to be in the comfort zone. CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs only twice in their history.
