IPL 2024: 3 players who can fill Suryakumar Yadav’s spot in Mumbai Indians XI
Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24 in an away fixture.
Mumbai Indians (MI) qualified for the playoffs in the last season under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy by finishing fourth on the points table. Notably, they knocked Lucknow Super Giants out in the Eliminator but Gujarat Titans crashed their title hopes in Qualifier 2.
MI think-tank replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the new captain. The five-time IPL champions will begin their campaign on March 24 as they will take on Gujarat Titans on March 24 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Co. were dealt with a big blow as their talismanic batter Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be ruled out of the first two games. The star batter was suffering from a sports hernia and had to undergo surgery in January in Germany.
Suryakumar Yadav is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru undergoing his rehabilitation phase. As a result, he is a doubtful starter for the starting two games, and let’s take a look at the three players who can fill his shoes in the starting XI.
1. Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis is an exciting prospect who can fill Suryakumar Yadav’s shoes for the time being. He is popularly known as “Baby AB” for his playing style that closely resembles that of South Africa’s batting maestro AB de Villiers.
Having played 7 games, the 22-year-old mustered 161 runs at a strike rate of 142.48. However, he didn’t get a chance to play IPL 2023. He will be looking forward to bringing his high-voltage batting approach to the table if he gets an opportunity to bat.
