“Age is a factor” – Brian Lara doubts Virat Kohli to reach 100 international centuries
Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara has expressed that Virat Kohli might not be able to breach Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries record. He feels that age will be a major factor in front of Kohli to get past the world record.
The 35-year-old currently has 80 international centuries to his name. Lara stated that even if he manages to score five centuries per year, it would still take him four more years to reach the peak.
“Kohli’s current age is 35, right? With 80 centuries to his name, he still requires 20 more. If he manages to score five centuries annually, it would take him an additional four years to match Tendulkar. By that time, Kohli will be 39. It’s a challenging task, a very tough one,” he told Anandabazar Patrika.

Can Virat Kohli go on to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record?
The West Indies legend also highlighted the fact that nobody can predict accurately whether Kohli will be able to break the record or not. He believes that the right-handed batter will go on to break multiple records but reaching 100 tons will be the most difficult one.
“It’s impossible to say for sure, nobody can predict. Those claiming Kohli will surpass Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries may not be considering cricketing logic. Achieving 20 more centuries is a considerable distance. Many cricketers can’t achieve that in their entire careers. I won’t risk saying Kohli will achieve it. Age is a constant factor for everyone. While Kohli will undoubtedly break numerous records, reaching 100 centuries appears to be the most challenging one,” he added.
Indian batter Virat Kohli’s T20I career is still under the radar. He opted out of the white-ball series against South Africa. It’s still unclear whether he will walk back into the side or if the selectors will prefer youngsters for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
