World Cup 2023: “Media would call the team chokers” – Faf du Plessis reacts on South Africa’s exit
Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has expressed satisfaction over his country’s performance at the World Cup 2023. Despite not making it into the finals, he feels the Proteas played dominating cricket throughout the league stage.
When asked about South Africa’s exit following a loss at the hands of Australia in the World Cup semis, du Plessis said he is proud of the team’s performance. He stated that the media houses might call them chokers but he hasn’t seen such a dominating Proteas side ever before.
“Media would call the team chokers but I am proud of their performance. I haven’t seen a more dominating Proteas side in the group stage of the World Cup before. The players were impressive during the tournament,” he said on Star Sports.
The 39-year-old also believes that the future of South Africa is bright as the side possesses many young talented players. “The team has young players who will represent South Africa for a long time. The future looks bright,” he added.

South Africa’s World Cup drought continues
The Temba Bavuma-led South Africa failed to make their path into the finals. Elected to bat first, they got off to a horrible start as the top order fell last cards. The duo of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller took charge of the sinking ship.
They played sensibly to keep the scorecard moving before Travis Head got rid of Klaasen. However, Miller’s fighting hundred took the side to 212. In reply, Australia got off to a flying start as the openers accumulated a 60-run partnership.
The collective effort from the Proteas’ bowlers took the game deep but the five-time champions sealed the final berth comfortably. Australia will face Team India in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (November 19).
