“That is garbage” – Marnus Labuschagne on ‘Bazball’ term inclusion in Collins Dictionary
Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has reacted to ‘Bazball‘ term getting listed into new edition of famous Collins’ Dictionary. He found the inclusion absolute illogicial and called it a garbage move.
The ‘Bazball’ term has been at the centre of discussion even since Brendon McCullum was appointed as England’s Head Coach in Test cricket. It reflects the aggresive batting style adopted by the English batters.
The term was included in the dictionary as a noun with a meaning, “a style of test cricket in which the batting side plays in a highly aggresive manner”. Apart from inclusion, the word has also been shortlisted for Collins WOTY (Word of the Year) 2023.
While talking to Cricket.com.au, Labuschagne had no idea about the inclusion of the term into the dictionary. But once he finds out about it, he left no stone unturned to take down on the step.
Marnus Labuschagne is yet to impress in the World Cup 2023
Marnus Labuschagne, who made a late entry into World Cup squad, hasn’t been really convincing with the bat. In six games so far, he gathered 201 runs at an average of 33.50 and a strike-rate of 77.30, including a fifty.
In the recent days, his position came under scrutinity after many people raised questions over his contribution. However, Glenn Maxwell’s concussion injury, which he suffered on Monday, has left no room for a change.
The 29-year-old is likely to continue in the main line-up for the next clashes. However, he will be expected to step up and take more responsiblity. As the business end approaches, the Australian middle-order should join the party as soon as possible.
