IPL 2021: BCCI announces final 292 players list for IPL auction
Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League. They defeated Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 finals in the United Arab Emirates. Rohit Sharma & Co defended the title for the first time and lifted their fifth IPL trophy. Only Chennai Super Kings are quite close to the defending champions in terms of trophies won by a club.
Chennai Super Kings won three titles so far. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders won the title twice. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers (now-defunct franchise) and Rajasthan Royals won the title each. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals have made it to the finals before but failed to win a trophy since the inception of the IPL.
BCCI reveals full list
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India did a pretty good job in hosting the cash-rich IPL in the UAE. Due to COVID-19 last year, many cricket events were called off. The IPL was postponed for an indefinite period. However, BCCI pulled off a masterclass by staging the tournament in the foreign nation.
Ahead of the upcoming IPL, all the eight franchises have done a clean-up process where they released many players while also retaining the core part of the group. The upcoming mini-auction is scheduled to be held in Chennai on February 18. The auction will start at 15:00 IST. Meanwhile, the BCCI announced the full auction list. It is said that only 292 cricketers will go under the hammer against the available 61 spots for the VIVO IPL 2021 Player Auction list.
Earlier, as many as 1114 cricketers registered for the auction. The final list was then trimmed after the 8 franchises submitted the shortlist of players. As many as 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs in the upcoming auction in Chennai.
It should be noted that INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price and 2 Indian players namely Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav and 8 overseas cricketers have preferred to be in the highest bracket. The overseas players include Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy & Mark Wood.
As many as 12 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. It has been learnt that Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav are the two Indian players in the list of 11 cricketers with a base price of INR 1 crore.
