3 players who were lucky to be named in India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2022

On Monday (September 12), BCCI announced India’s squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. There were speculations that the selectors might make many changes after India’s poor show in the Asia Cup 2022. But only a couple of obvious changes were made and the squad is very similar to India’s squad for the continental cup.
Despite displaying a below-par performance, a few names have managed to retain their spot in the team. In this article, we will take a look at those names who would consider themselves lucky after being named in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.
1) Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant’s inclusion is the most controversial topic in the cricket fraternity at the moment as he has not been able to deliver up to the standards in T20Is. Despite playing over 50 games, he is yet to decode his workings for the shortest format of the game. Even in the Asia Cup, he got out playing an unnecessary shot when the team needed him to play long.
He would consider himself lucky to be named in the squad as there were many voices raised for the inclusion of Sanju Samson instead of him. Ravindra Jadeja’s injury has also worked in his favor as the Men in Blue are keen to have a left-handed batter in the right-handed dominating batting line-up.

2) Ravi Ashwin
Although Ravi Ashwin deserves a bit of his selection in the squad, Ravi Bishnoi is clearly ahead of him in terms of performance. Bishnoi has performed well for the Indian team whenever he was given an opportunity. On top of that, he is also a better fielder than Ashwin. But he will serve as a standby player for the lucrative tournament.
One may also argue that Rohit Sharma’s side should have picked another pacer in place of Ashwin as the scope of spinners on the Australian pitches is limited. But it looks like the Indian management is counting on Ashwin’s experience for the marquee event.
3) Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh has numbers in his favour following his good performance in the Asia Cup 2022. However, it was evident that the lack of exposure to international cricket was somewhat hurting his game. He has been a bit shaky in pressure situations, and nobody can forget his catch drop and overthrow towards the business end.
Deepak Chahar, who will be a standby player, could have been in the squad owing to his abilities with the new ball and experience. But the Men in Blue have opted for the left-handed pacer and will be expecting him to bowl in similar fashion especially in death over where he can be an absolute match winner.
